How to add new product in WooCommerce

  1. To access the admin panel of your site go to yoursite.com/wp-admin and log in with your username and password .

  1. Navigate to Products -> Add new. 


  1. Enter Title and Description.

 

  1. Choose Product Type: Product type is dependent on which type of product you are selling. To understand more about product types refer to the description below:

  • Simple product: This is the default product type. This is the most common type used by sellers.

  • Grouped product : This is used for combining products for ex. Pack of four t-shirts or Pack of three books.

  • External/Affiliate product: If you are selling someone other’s products or you are doing affiliate business then use this option to link the “Add to Cart” button to an external page.

  • Variable product: Product with combination of multiple options like Size, Color, Price is known as Variable products. For Example: Jacket has options like choose Size, Color, Etc.


There are two additional options also: 

  • Virtual: If you are selling online digital products which doesn’t require shipping then you can choose this option.

  • Downloadable: If you want to give some downloadable content or file regarding a product you can choose this. For example: Audio or Video file, PDF for eBook, etc.


  1. Product Data Tabs: After choosing the product type you need to fill some necessary information regarding the product by navigating between different tabs.

General Tab: Under the general tab you can see options as below.

  • Regular Price: Enter regular price of product.

  • Sale Price: Enter discounted price. If you want to give discounts on product.

  • Tax Status: Whether product is taxable or not. If yes select Taxable.

  • Tax Class: Select tax class.


Inventory Tab: This tab is useful for managing stock. There are by default options like SKU, stock status, and other. If You are not able to see all these options then make sure to enable this by navigating to WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Inventory .

  • SKU: You need to enter a unique number to identify stock and product. It helps to simplify inventory management.

  • Manage stock?: You can see one checkbox for stock management at product level. You need to enable this option to manage stock automatically otherwise you will have to update stock manually. 

  • Stock quantity: Enter number of pieces available in stock.

  • Allow backorders?: Allow customers to order if a product is not available currently or it is in process of manufacture and it will be available soon.

  • The low stock threshold: It will notify you when product stock goes below the threshold.



Shipping Tab: You can manage shipping details about physical products in this tab. 

  • Add weight and dimensions of product.

  • Shipping Class: Shipping is dependent on the weight, size, service type, etc and it may vary based on the type of product. The shipping class groups the products based on weight limits. (Shipping classes will be created by your developer as per your business requirements).




Linked Products Tab: This is recommended to increase revenue. You can achieve this by using two options explained below. 

  • Cross-sells: Recommend or link similar products on the product page.

  • Upsells: You can endorse more expensive products with finer features, i.e., addons to the product.  Upsells can be added on the checkout page as well.



Attribute Tab: You can add options like color, sizes, and more. If you have variable products or variations available for the product then this tab is useful. Variation and Attributes work together.




Advanced Tab: You can add purchase notes to display after a successful order. Enable reviews by selecting checkbox as well as you can add item order.




  1. Add engaging short descriptions of the product which can catch the customer's attention.




  1. Add some final information. 

  • Product Image: Add feature image of your product. This will be a main image of the product. 

  • Product Gallery: Name is self explanatory. Add extra images of products.

  • Product Categories and Tags: Choose related categories and add some unique and relevant tags to make it easier to find products within your store.



  1. Review all the information about the product again. Make sure all the details are correct and then you can hit ‘Publish’. This will make your product live on the front side.
